I’ve been experimenting with cyanotype as a way of working directly with sunlight, using plants, shadows and the movement of wind to create photographic impressions. I’m interested in the unpredictability of the process, particularly how the plants shift in the wind as they are exposed, allowing light, time and movement to become part of the image. I made these cyanotypes small enough to keep in a tin and carry with me wherever I went. The idea was to create a portable space for making, something I could return to alongside work and everyday life, whenever I found a spare moment. For my dissertation project, I explored the visual language of 20th-century Polish poster design and its emphasis on bold composition and symbolism. Drawing on this research, I developed a series of six posters for a fictional “Kabaret” night, using collage as a primary technique. digital collage. For this self-directed project, I conceptualised a fictional food festival set in France and developed a visual identity through a series of posters and banners. The process began with experimental printmaking using raw vegetables, followed by screen printing, and was later developed further through digital collage layered over the printed textures. animation. As part of the “Document My Culture” project, I examined my personal connection to Corsica through abstract collages inspired by memory, place, and heritage. This research-led process developed into a stop-motion collage animation, translating static compositions into movement to build a more dynamic visual narrative. A self-initiated art sharing project titled Toot, exploring experimental image-making through found materials and conceptual prompts. The project included creating a fictional hybrid animal by combining imagery from different species, using found material from Animal Magazine. Another response explored the word “seat”, using colours from record sleeve cardboard alongside photographs of pebbles and rocks collected from my environment, focusing on form, texture, and visual association. A further response explored the word “place”, combining photographic backgrounds with simple collaged house forms to create a straightforward visual interpretation of location and environment. The latest response explored found text and chance. A poetry book found by the roadside was used to select a random line, which was recreated using mixed media before being transformed into a cyanotype. <img width="925" height="1387" width_o="925" 02:02:48 +0000 Saje Orsatelli-Barker https://sajeorsatellibarker.com/Dogme-Typography Dogme Typography Typographic experiment using strict rules and paper-based negative space to explore constraint-led design. Inspired by Dogme 95, this project explores how strict rules can be used as a framework for typographic design. I developed a set of self-imposed constraints to guide the creation of letterforms, working mainly with paper-based negative space and collage techniques. This process made it challenging to build clear letterforms within limitations, encouraging problem-solving and more considered design decisions.
